Travel Insurance Au – Australian Travel and Holiday Insurance

Yes, we can drink the water but you should still take out Australian travel insurance. Australia does have other hazards.

There’s an episode in the iconic Australian show, Sea Change, when in referring to Australia as a travel destination the character, Angus, has written: “you don’t need any shots, and you can drink the water”.

These are two fantastic realities about travel in Australia as compared to many overseas countries. But we do experience three negatives that we share with every destination – any traveller, domestic or international, can fall sick or be involved in an accident, and belongings can be lost and occasionally stolen.

In surveys conducted by the ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) in 2002 it was estimated Australian residents over the age of 15 spent almost 3 million nights away, each averaging 4.8 journeys to another part of Australia. Australians love their holidays and love to get away but, even though there is a major focus on not going overseas without international travel insurance, Australia domestic travel rarely receives the same prominence.

Of the thousands of car accidents that occur each year, how many were travelling on holidays? How many were protected against the range of off-shoot expenses that come from such a traumatic deviation to their holiday plans. These expenses could include additional accommodation and alternative travelling expenses and replacing luggage and personal possessions.

If travelling to a specific pre-paid event, cruise or holiday destination, how many will lose that full payment or deposit completely or were covered by insurance and will get their money back?

Naturally, motor vehicle accidents only account for a fraction of the incidents that can disrupt holiday plans for both Australians and visitors. General accidents and sickness account for far more disruption, expense and lost holiday dollars yet are seldom considered.

Don’t Lose Your Holiday Dollars – Protect Yourself

Australia travel insurance is available from a range of companies offering travel insurance though hundreds of ‘street front’ offices, over the phone insurance or convenient online travellers insurance Australia for both Aussies and international tourists.

Just as thousands of Australians still travel overseas without sufficient, if any, travel insurance, many more thousands arrive without first having purchased travel insurance for journey to Australia. These visitors are placing themselves in considerable financial risk should they experience accident, sickness or loss, and may not realise that a number of Australian insurance companies will provide travel cover for visitors.

Given the comparatively small cost and the ease of getting an online quote and purchasing travel insurance, Australia and international holiday makers are well advised to protect themselves and their financial security.
