Home Insurance questions & answers

To take out an 1Cover home insurance policy, simply call 1800 010 795 and one of the sales assistants will be happy to provide
you with any assistance you require. You won't need to fill in any forms at all to get covered. The call centre is
open Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm (EST) and Saturday 8am to 5pm (EST).
2. How long does it take to get Home and Contents insurance?
Generally the path from quote to cover is a matter of one quick call - we know your time is important!
3. What if I have to make a Home and Contents insurance claim?
Simply call the claims line on 1300 885 996 and the friendly staff will assist you all the way through the quick
and painless process.
Most claims can be processed over the phone, depending on the situation. In some cases we will arrange for an assessor to visit your house to inspect the damage, and help you to coordinate repairs and replacements. Either way, your claim will be dealt with with the minimum fuss.
4. What are the best ways I can save money on my Home and Contents insurance?
Simply by choosing 1Cover house insurance, you are being quoted by one of the the most highly developed assessment systems
in the world. This means we can give you our best price straight away. Well done - you're already on your way to the best price possible!
There are also a number of options you can choose to include or exclude from your policy, which will ultimately affect the premium you pay. These include:
- Motor Burnout
- Accidental Damage
- Personal Effects cover (only with Contents insurance)
Additionally, you may vary the excess you pay in the event of a claim. In turn, this will affect the premium we charge.
Finally, you can opt to pay your premium in either monthly or annual installments to suit your needs.
5. Can I buy Home and Contents insurance online?
Currently we are unable to offer you online quoting because of the personalised nature of the quotes, however one quick
call to the call centre will get you a home insurance quote instantly, and if you want, cover there and then.
6. What benefits should I seek out when choosing a Home and Contents insurer?
Some things you should look out for when choosing an insurer include:
- Choice of optional extras so you can tailor the policy to your needs
- Variable excess feature (allows premium to be altered)
- Monthly or Annual premium payment options
- Paperless application
- 21 day money back guarantee incase you need to cancel
7. What factors affect the premium I am charged?
Insurance premiums are calculated on the basis of the risk you present to the insurer. By risk, we mean the likelihood of you making a claim.
Risk is affected by things like location of your home, the material the home is constructed from, the security devices installed, how the home is occupied and the frequency of claims.
8. What happens if I don't tell you about my past claims when I am asked?
By not disclosing all relevant information you are impeding the insurer's ability to accurately calculate your premium. This can
lead to partial payouts or cancellation of your policy.
9. Who is the underwriter for 1Cover's Home and Contents insurance?
1Cover's home and contents insurance policies are underwritten by Auto & General Insurance
Company Limited. Auto & General Insurance Company Limited is an Australian Insurer
authorised to conduct insurance business in Australia by the Australian Prudential
Regulatory Authority (APRA). Auto & General Insurance Company Limited is a
