DFAT advice for Ecuador
When travelling to Ecuador, you should always get travel insurance in case the worst happens. To help you ensure you travel safely, we have included the travel advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Ecuador.

- We advise you to exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety in Ecuador because of the risk of crime and civil unrest.
- Pay close attention to your personal security and monitor the media for information about possible new safety or security risks.
- Protests and demonstrations are frequent in Ecuador. You should avoid public demonstrations and large public gatherings throughout Ecuador as they may become violent.
- The Tungurahua volcano in central Ecuador is active and Ecuadorian authorities have forbidden access to it. See the Natural Disasters and Health Issues sections below for further advice.
- We strongly advise you not to travel to Carchi, Orellana, Sucumbios and Napo provinces in north-eastern Ecuador bordering Colombia and Peru. There is a high threat of terrorist and serious criminal activity in these provinces.
- We strongly advise you not to hike to the antennas of Pichincha volcano, because of the high risk of serious crime.
- Australia does not have an Embassy or Consulate in Ecuador. The Australian Embassy in Chile provides consular assistance to Australians in Ecuador. The Canadian Embassy in Quito can also provide consular assistance to Australians.
