Thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies look no further. Make
the most of your holiday overseas with our
guide to the top 5 adrenaline experiences
. We’ll help you enjoy the best the world has to
offer.
1. Abseil Table Mountain, South Africa
This is the world’s highest commercial abseil. From a
kilometre above sea level, on the iconic Table Mountain, you
can enjoy breathtaking views of Cape Town before abseiling
112 metres down the sheer face. And as you descend, you can
look out to the horizon on the Atlantic Ocean and see the
curvature of the Earth.
2. Kite-surfing, Tarifa, Spain
For this crazy combination of extreme kiting, windsurfing
and surfing, you’ll need strength, expert training
– and preferably no concept of fear. Tarifa, at the
southernmost tip of Spain, has become a mecca for
kite-surfers, thanks to near-perfect wind and tide
conditions, plus the beautiful scenic backdrop of the town
and the Isla de Las Palomas.
3. Luging at La Plagne, France
If you like hurtling down an icy half-tube at 56mph, on your
back, with your feet dangling over the front of a
dinner-tray, here’s the perfect place to do it! La
Plagne’s bobsleigh run was built for the 1992 Winter
Olympics, and has stayed open since to train professional
athletes – and scare the living daylights out of
everybody else. Enjoy.
4. Skydiving, Nevada, US
If you’re in Las Vegas, and a spell on the slot
machines or the roulette wheel doesn’t excite you,
perhaps jumping out of a plane high above the Nevada desert
will. Skydiving is not only an immense thrill; it’s
also a great way to see the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead and the
Las Vegas Strip like you’ve never seen them before.
5. Ziptrekking, Whistler, Canada
Here’s an unusual one. How about whizzing through the
temperate rainforest canopy on a series of suspended wire
cables? In Whistler, western Canada, they’ve built a
network of cables and treetop platforms. You simply strap
in, grab the wire-runner and off you go. One of the lines is
600 metres long, so you reach some eye-watering speeds.
With any ‘extreme’ activity while on holiday,
you’ll need travel insurance that covers you for it.
Some insurance companies will adapt your policy to include
such activities (at an extra premium), or you may have to
find a separate policy from a specialist insurer.
