There's so much more to Fiji than lazing by the pool
with a cocktail in hand... Make the most of your holiday
overseas with our
guide to the top 5 things to do in Fiji.
We'll help you experience the best the world has to offer.
1. Snorkel through the coral reefs
With over 300 islands, each fringed by soft coral reefs,
it's hard to know where to begin. You can scuba-dive
or snorkel around the Beqa Lagoon, Rainbow Reef, or the
Somosomo Straits with its famous Great White Wall. Northern
Fiji is known as the 'soft coral capital of the
world', so for diving enthusiasts it's paradise.
2. Meet the locals
Fijians are known for their welcoming smiles and
hospitality. You can join an organised tour of nearby
villages and markets, or you might just strike up a
friendship during your stay. Look for a chance to take part
in a Meke, a local warrior dance in full national costume
with traditional singing.
3. A Robinson Crusoe lunch
There are many boat and yacht tours of the surrounding
islands, but for something a little different you can be
dropped off at your very own secluded beach with a full
lunch. Enjoy your own deserted island picnic in paradise.
4. Try a new watersport
Many resorts offer a range of watersports free of charge
- so now's your chance to learn how to windsurf,
sail a catamaran or snorkel. Other activities may be
available at an extra cost - enjoy the adrenalin rush
of parasailing or jetskiing, go scuba diving, or bump along
on a banana boat ride. Or float down river on a traditional
bamboo-raft, for something that's a little more off
the beaten track.
5. Explore the Garden of the Sleeping Giant
The acres of orchids and flowering plants in the Garden of
the Sleeping Giant will take your breath away. This
magnificent garden lies at the foot of the Sabeto Mountains,
about half an hour from Nadi.
It's easy to arrange any of these adventures once you
arrive in Fiji - just ask your resort for details.
Don't forget to make sure you have travel insurance.
Then you can just relax and enjoy the tranquillity...
