The history, the culture, the shopping... Make the most
of your holiday overseas with our
guide to the top 5 things to do in New York, USA.
We'll help you experience the best the world has to offer.
1. Times Square
The epicentre of New York's famous hustle and bustle,
Times Square is also packed with history - and is a
great starting point for exploring what the city has to
offer. The mesmerising neon lights rival those of Las Vegas,
and Times Square (or 'the devil's
playground', as it's been called) is at its most
spectacular during its famous New Year's Eve
celebrations.
2. Central Park
With a city as crowded as New York, it's hardly
surprising that green open spaces are so popular, and
Central Park offers more space than most. Sitting right in
the heart of Manhattan, and with over 700 acres of grass,
trees, lakes and paths, you shouldn't have any trouble
finding it!
3. Staten Island ferry
Staten Island may not be as famous as other NY boroughs, but
the ferry which travels between it and the southern tip of
Manhattan is a favourite for tourists. Not only is it free,
but the ferry runs 24 hours a day, all year round, and
offers passengers some of the best views of the Statue of
Liberty and Manhattan's famous skyline.
4. Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Located near the desirable Park Slope district in Brooklyn,
the Botanic Garden is famous throughout the plant-loving
world, and offers a beautiful retreat for those who get a
little exhausted by New York's hectic lifestyle. And
it's not just flowers - the 52-acre garden also
boasts a bonsai museum, a glass aquatic house and an art
gallery.
5. Empire State Building
You've seen it in countless movies, now visit it for
yourself! The Empire State Building lost its
'world's tallest building' status way back
in 1972, but hasn't lost any of its grandeur or
appeal. Day or night, the views are magnificent, reminding
visitors the city has plenty more wonderful buildings to
visit too...
