The history, the culture, the landscape... Make the most
of your holiday overseas with our
guide to the top 5 things to do in the UK. We'll help
you experience the best the world has to offer.
1. London
You could spend your whole UK visit here without running
short of interesting and exciting things to see and do. But
assuming you'd like to see more than the capital, we
suggest you head for Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London,
and one or two of the world-renowned galleries and museums.
Also try a bustling street-market - Camden or Borough,
for example.
2. The Eden Project, Cornwall
In the far southwest of England, in the heart of rural
Cornwall, the Eden Project is a striking landmark. Its main
features are two 'biomes' - huge
artificial climates (one tropical, one Mediterranean) that
house plants and wildlife from all over the world. The
complex also hosts a wide range of exhibitions, and is a
large outdoor concert venue.
3. Edinburgh, Scotland
Scotland's capital is architecturally diverse and
picturesque, and it boasts a year-round programme of
festivals and events dedicated to arts and culture. In among
the numerous beautiful buildings, such as Edinburgh Castle
and the Scott Monument, you'll find excellent
galleries, museums and exhibitions, and plenty of bars,
restaurants and nightlife.
4. The Gower Peninsula, South Wales
The Gower Peninsula gives visitors a sense of seclusion and
peace in some breathtaking surroundings - unspoilt
countryside, beautiful clean surfing beaches, bays and a
network of fine coastal walks. Three Cliffs Bay, Oxwich Bay
and Rhossili Beach are fine examples of why the Gower was
the first area of the UK to be officially designated an
'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'.
5. Oxford
The city of Oxford boasts buildings from every period of
English architecture since the Saxons arrived in the fifth
and sixth centuries. Known as the 'city of dreaming
spires', it's also home to the internationally
renowned University of Oxford. This is the oldest university
in the English-speaking world, with beautifully kept
buildings, grounds and waterways open to the public.
