The history, the culture, the landscape... Make the most
of your holiday overseas with our
guide to the top 5 things to do in the USA
. We'll help you experience the best the world has to
offer.
1. The Grand Canyon
However many times you've seen it in pictures and
films, nothing quite prepares you for the amazing sight of
Arizona's Grand Canyon. It's also a great visit
because of the range of activities you can do when you get
there, including hiking, rafting and camping. A must-see,
and must-do, experience.
2. Golden Gate Bay cruise
San Francisco is famous throughout the world for its
beautiful bay, and there's no better way to take it
all in than with a short cruise. Boats depart regularly from
the historic Fisherman's Wharf, and as well as
offering incredible views of the city's skyline, your
trip around the bay will take you past the iconic landmarks
of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge.
3. Getty Centre, Los Angeles
Home to the Getty Trust, which does a huge amount of
valuable work for art conservation, the Getty Centre is a
stunning feat of architecture - as well as housing
vast amounts of sculpture, drawings, paintings and
photography. The Centre, which sits high above LA's
famous Bel-Air district, is free to visit.
4. Savannah, Georgia
Sometimes known as the 'hostess city of the
south', Savannah beautifully encapsulates the
region's famous 'southern charm'. Its
elegant architecture and relaxed atmosphere have remained
intact despite huge numbers of visitors, and Savannah is
perfect for those who want an insight into the America which
foreign tourists often overlook.
5. The Empire State Building
It may have lost its 'world's tallest
building' status way back in 1972, but this Art Deco
icon has lost none of its appeal. The building is
surprisingly tricky to locate when you're on foot, but
by the time you're up there and enjoying the fantastic
views across Manhattan, you'll realise what all the
fuss is about!
