All you have to do is give us your funniest, most creative video response to:
Welcome to The One Thing Comedy Competition, brought to you by 1Cover Travel Insurance. This is the second year of the competition, and we’re calling all comedians for a chance to win $10,000!
“The one thing you regret about that holiday.”
We get that travel insurance might not be fun, but there’s nothing more exciting than going on holiday… until things go wrong.
That’s why we want you to tell us your stories, sing us a song, perform a sketch, or do something entirely different.
We’ve got a $10K cash prize up for grabs, as well as thousands in runner up prizes. Plus, you’ll get exposure in the comedy world, and your video could be viewed by millions of people across Australia and New Zealand.
Sound good? Then get your funny on, start recording, and enter The One Thing comedy competition now!
We’re looking for fun and creativity, not big budgets. But, please make sure you record in landscape format (16:9 ratio), keep it under 90 seconds and less than 30MB. We also currently support MP4 video format.
Make it rain: here’s what you could win!
The big kahuna! The judges will vote for their favourite video, and they’ll call you on the day to let you know you’re the winner of a cool $10,000.
Second place will be full of glory, we promise. The runner up also gets a call as soon as the judges votes are cast and counted.
If your uploaded video gets the most votes from employees at the 1Cover Office, you’ll get $3,000.

How does the judging work?
We’ve got three comedy experts and one very humorous insurance boffin on the judging panel. When you upload your video, you’ll be asked to select a judge that you think will represent you best. When you select a judge, you’ll become part of their team.
Each judge will review all the videos in their team, and select their 10 favourite entries. They’ll then present these 10 entries to the rest of the panel. Each judge will try to convince the other judges why one of their 10 favourites should win.
After each judge presents their favourites, the voting will begin – but no one can vote for an entry from their own team.
Remember, the right judge could get you over the line, so make sure you think carefully about which judge might get your sense of humour best.
I am the Managing Director at 1Cover Travel Insurance and really excited to be part of this amazing competition. After 20 years (and counting) in insurance I’m ready to enjoy some comedy. Good luck everyone.
Bridie Connell is an ARIA award-winning writer and performer. In addition to her impressive list of TV credits, she has extensive experience in many other facets of the industry including musical theatre, improv, comedy, voiceover and presenting.
Michael Hing is a veteran comedian, radio-host, podcaster, and actor. He’s appeared in the Stan original series The Other Guy, and on SBS’s Viceland & The Feed. He’s the host of SBS doco, Where Are You Really From?, and has performed to sold-out audiences at the Sydney and Melbourne Comedy Festivals.
I produce the televised events for the Melbourne Comedy Festival and am also responsible for all of our online content - working with sponsors and artists to create a broad range of offerings in the digital space. I am really looking forward to seeing what amazing talent enters the competition!
