Do Australians need a visa for Singapore?

If you are travelling on an Australian passport, you do not need a visa to enter Singapore. However, you must still meet certain conditions before being allowed entry. These include having:

  • A passport valid for at least six months
  • Enough funds for the length of your stay
  • A completed Electronic Arrival Card (or the traditional Disembarkation/Embarkation Card)
  • A confirmed onward or return ticket
  • Proof that you can enter your next destination, such as a valid visa if required
  • A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate if you are arriving from a country where the disease is present

When you arrive, an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer will issue you a Visit Pass. This pass shows how long you can stay in Singapore, which is usually up to 30 days.

Who needs a visa for Singapore?

As part of Singapore's entry and visa requirements, not all travellers enjoy visa-free entry. If your travel document is issued by certain countries, including India, Bangladesh, Nigeria or Russia, you will need a visa before travelling. A full list of countries is available on the ICA website.

It is also worth noting that a visa is not a guarantee of entry. It simply allows you to travel to Singapore and seek entry at immigration. The final decision rests with the ICA officer at the checkpoint.

How to apply for a Singapore visa in Australia

If you hold a passport from a country that requires a visa, you can apply in Australia. Applications should be made within 30 days of your planned arrival. There are three main ways to apply:

  1. Online with a Local Contact – A Singapore citizen or permanent resident who knows you can apply on your behalf using their Singpass login. A fee of SGD30 applies.
  2. Through VFS Global visa centres – There are authorised locations in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. Applications here attract a service fee, in addition to the visa fee. Appointments must be made online before visiting.
  3. At the Singapore High Commission in Canberra – You can book an appointment and apply directly. You will need a completed form, a recent passport photo, your original passport, photocopies of key pages, proof of valid stay in Australia and your flight and accommodation details. The fee is AUD35, payable in cash.

Processing usually takes three to five working days, but some applications may take longer. Once approved, you will get an electronic visa (e-visa) by email.
