Personal Liability

We provide cover for legal liability, including legal expenses for bodily injuries or damage to property of other persons as a result of a claim made against you. See the PDS for full details. 

What's Covered?
  • Your legal liability. Up to $5,000,000.
  • Payment of compensation in respect of death or bodily injury, and/or physical loss of, or damage to, property. 
  • Reasonable legal expenses. Cover is provided for your reasonable legal expenses for settling or defending the claim made against you.

Please note: you must not admit fault or liability for the claim, or incur any legal costs without 1Cover's prior written approval.

what's not covered?
  • Personal Liability whilst driving a car or riding a scooter/motorcycle. We do not replace any aspect of car insurance.
  • Bodily Injury. No benefit is payable for any amount if you are legally liable to pay for a  claim that arises directly or indirectly from, or is in any way connected with, or is for,  bodily injury to you, your Travelling Companion, or to a Relative or employee of either of you.
  • Damage to property belonging to you, or in your care or control, or belonging to, or in the care or control of, your Relative, or your Travelling Companion, or to an employee of either of you. 
  • Any loss relating to your ownership, custody or use of any firearm or weapon, aerial device, watercraft or motorised vehicle.
  • Any loss relating to your conduct of, or employment in, any business, profession, trade or occupation.

  • What Is Personal Liability?
  • Personal liability is one of the benefits we have that cover your legal liability for payment of compensation in respect of death or bodily injury, and/or physical loss of, or damage to property. 

    We will also reimburse your reasonable legal expenses for settling or defending the claim made against you. You must not admit fault or liability for the claim, or incur any legal costs without our prior written approval. 

    Please note that we do not offer personal liability cover whilst you are in ownership or in control of a motor vehicle, motorbike or scooter, and we don’t replace any aspect of car insurance. 

    Our ComprehensiveDomestic and Frequent Traveller policies do, however, offer cover for Rental Vehicle Excess.

  • Do you cover personal liability whilst I’m driving?
  • Our personal liability benefit does not extend to cover you whilst driving a car or riding a scooter/motorcyle. We do not replace any aspect of car insurance. Please read the PDS for full details on personal liability cover. 

    Our Comprehensive, Already OverseasDomestic and Frequent Traveller policies do, however, offer cover for Rental Vehicle Excess. Please note that rental vehicle excess is not applicable to motorcycles or scooters. Please see the PDS for complete details on rental vehicle excess.

  • Do You Cover For Third Party Damages Or Third Party Liability?
  • Our personal liability benefit is excluded if you're in control of any motor vehicle.
    However if your rental vehicle agreement, covers third parties and you have to pay an excess, then you may have a provision to claim for this excess amount if your policy covers Rental Vehicle Excess.
