  • "Do not travel without 1Cover"

We have used 1Cover for many years now and do not leave home without it. Great service, exceptional if you make a claim. Only insurer I would recommend.

  • Helpful, caring & supportive

My husband required emergency surgery in the USA. There was no expense spared with either the medical costs (considerable) or our accommodation. We cannot speak highly enough of 1Cover and have recommended them to all our friends.

  • "great company"

Found this company the best for insurance prior to Covid and especially now that travel has restarted. We had multiple credit vouchers that they have honoured with not problems. Thank you 1Cover for your great service.

    By Bernadette, Dec 2022

  • Easiest company

You never know how good insurance is until you have to make a claim! 1Cover responded to us in their prescribed timeframe and our payout was made within 15 days. I would recommend them 100%. This is the seventh time we have used them and first time we had to claim. Well done!

travel insurance FAQs

  • Am I covered for cancellation, travel changes or costs incurred due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19)?
  • No, there is no cover for cancellation costs or additional costs incurred because of Coronavirus (COVID-19). 1Cover policies purchased prior to 19th November 2021 have a general exclusion that excludes cover for any claims related to an epidemic or pandemic.

1Cover policies purchased after 19th November 2021 offer overseas medical coverage if you test positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19) and require medical treatment while overseas.

At this time we do not cover any cancellation costs or additional costs incurred because of Coronavirus (COVID-19). We recommend that you contact your travel providers (your airline, transport and accommodation providers) to find out what terms and conditions may apply to you.

    Learn more about
cover for pandemics and how to recover your costs.

  • What Happens If I Miss My Flight Or If Flights are Delayed/Cancelled?
  • In the first instance, you should contact the airline to see if any alternate arrangement can be made or if any compensation may be offered.  You should retain any documentation provided by the airline or receipts for any out-of-pocket expenses which you may incur as a result of the delay or cancellation so that you can submit them should you need to make a claim. We do not cover for cancellation, delays or rescheduling which are at the fault of the airline as the responsibility falls on the transport provider to supply you with the services you have paid them for. Please see more information about travel insurance and cancellation cover.

  • What if my luggage is lost or delayed by my airline?
  • We will reimburse you up to $250 if any items of your Luggage & Personal Effects are delayed, misdirected or misplaced by a carrier for more than 12 hours. We do not cover for any loss or damage to items after you have checked them into the hold and until you have collected them again from the luggage conveyor as the transport carrier is at fault for their loss or damage and you should seek compensation from them. See more information about luggage cover.

  • What Happens If I Get Sick Or Injured Overseas?
  • If you're travelling internationally, 1Cover offers Emergency Medical Assistance anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. If you’re sick or injured, we advise that you or a member of your travelling party call our medical assistance team as soon as possible.

For minor ailments, such as those that only require a GP visit, you may choose to visit a doctor, pay for your visit upfront, and then submit your claim either from overseas or once you return home. Make sure that you keep all receipts and reports from your treating doctor, including the diagnosis and treatment notes and any other documents.

  • What if i ride a scooter or Motorcycle overseas?
  • There are certain things you will need to be aware of in terms of your travel insurance if you're riding a scooter, moped or motorcycle overseas. Find out everything you need to know here.

  • What Happens If I Need To Cancel My Trip?
  • If you need to cancel your trip, notify any travel providers (airlines, accomodation, tour providers, etc) of your intention to cancel.

Make sure you check whether your travel providers will refund you. Sometimes, they will return deposits, fares, etc., depending on when you cancel and what your original contract states.

If you aren’t reimbursed, then check the certificate of insurance and the PDS to see whether your circumstances are covered.

Once you have done this, and you intend to claim, you’ll need to obtain and supply confirmations, refund advices, and terms and conditions. We request these for lodgement of your claim.

  • What Do I Do In The Case Of A Theft?
  • A theft while you’re away is incredibly unsettling, but to substantiate your claim, you’ll need to report the theft to the police or nearest local authority within 24 hours of the incident and obtain a written report that can to be used as supporting documents.

Make sure that the police report you obtain is an official one, and that all the items that have been stolen are clearly detailed. You’ll also need to capture the circumstances surrounding the event. Remember, the more information on the report, the better.

When you submit your claim, you’ll also need to provide proof of purchase and/or ownership in relation to the stolen items.

  • What Sports And Activities Are Covered Under your Policies?
  • We provide cover for a whole heap of sports and activities from abseiling to zorbing, automatically without any additional premium. Check out our activities page for more details. If you’re hitting the slopes for an adventure in the snow you will need to pay an additional premium for our Winter Sports Pack.

  • do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?

It could happen to you

Each year hundreds of young Australian's are injured or worse from motorbike and scooter related incidents overseas.

1Cover customer Jordon Hunt knows this all too well. On the last day of her Balinese holiday she got on the back of a scooter and the next thing she remembers is a four-wheel drive coming straight towards her at 70 km/h.

Waking up in hospital she had broken her leg and was going to require emergency surgery.

Luckily for Jordon she was covered by 1Cover. Her expenses came to more than $48,000, but her travel insurance policy only cost her $70.

Travellers often ask...

what Is travel Insurance?

You never know what can happen on your holidays so protect yourself against the risks and financial losses while you travel with insurance. Travel insurance gives you peace of mind from unexpected trip cancellation, medical emergencies, lost or stolen baggage or travel delays, and a wide range of unexpected events and expenses.

Why you need it?

You’ve booked your flights, you’ve packed your bags...but have you bought travel insurance? If you're leaving Australia, travel insurance is just as essential as a passport. Medical expenses are the number one reason to get insurance, believe us when we say the cost of medical treatment overseas really can be eye watering. Just take a look at some of our case studies to understand. What’s more things can often go wrong like travel delays, lost luggage or even the big stuff like natural disasters and pandemics. So listen to Smarttraveller “If you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.”

How much should travel insurance cost?

Travel insurance policies vary in price depending on factors such as the length and destination of the trip, traveller's age and health, and the level of coverage or extras selected. On average, you can expect travel insurance to cost anywhere from 4% to 10% of the total cost of your trip.

Which is the best travel insurance?

The best policy for you will depend on your individual needs and preferences, but there are some essentials when looking for the right cover. When researching, look out for a policy which has adequate amount of cover for your holiday - your transport, accommodation as well as any luggage items and any pre-existing conditions. Make sure you understand the exclusions when you wouldn’t be covered. And look for awards and reviews from previous customers to get an idea about customer service and claims.
