FAQs About Visitors To Australia Insurance

  • As A Visitor To Australia Do I Have Access To Medicare?
  • The Australian Government has certain agreements with countries around the world, called the Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA). If your country of residence is a part of this agreement then you can receive Medicare benefits.  Please be aware that the level of Medicare cover and the period of cover will vary depending on the country you are from. Please note that if you’re entitled to be covered under a reciprocal health agreement then this policy is not available to you.

  • If I’ve Forgot To Get Travel Insurance Before Travelling To Australia Can I Get 1Cover's Visitors To Australia Cover?
  • Yes, we’ve designed this policy specifically for non-residents of Australia. You need to make sure you purchase the policy within 14 days of arriving to Australia.

  • Is There A Waiting Period For Medical Cover Under This Policy?
  • There is a waiting period of 7 days from the purchase date noted on your certificate of insurance that applies to all sections of the policy.

  • Will I Be Covered If I Hire A Car In Australia?
  • Our Visitors to Australia policy will cover your rental vehicle excess up to $2500.  When renting a vehicle, the daily rental rates charged by the hire car company will include car insurance, however, in the event that the vehicle is stolen or accidentally damaged, there is usually an excess amount which the driver is liable to pay to the rental company.  Your travel insurance policy has this covered, so there is no need to pay extra at the pickup counter to reduce your excess.  If you’ve been in the country for longer than 14 days and are looking to hire a car, you can purchase standalone rental vehicle excess cover from a specialist such as Car Hire Excess for a fraction of the cost

  • What Happens If I Come Home Early?
  • Your policy covers the full duration of your trip. There are no refunds should you come home earlier than planned.
